The Crow's Nest - August 26, 2017
It truly is a “fall” day today. It is a bit humid, a bit cool and a bit of rain. It almost makes me want to light the fireplace! No, I think that is rushing the season just a wee bit too much. I really don’t know if this rain is timely for the farmers or not. I know the flowers in my yard appreciate it as I do. It is a couple hour job to water all our flowers. The autumn season is just around the corner. You can smell fall in the air. The days have gotten so much shorter and it cools off at night. This is a beautiful time of the year.
This has been a very busy but fun month. It was great having the “Nelons” home for a few days. Diana and husband Rusty, Mark and wife Cheryl, Patricia and son, Gabe and his wife Hannah and Barbara and grand-daughter Tea were all here. What a fun-filled, laughter filled, caring family they are. The love and admiration they have for each other is so visible. To top it off, they are also great at entertaining everyone. It was a super few days with them here. Diana and Rusty said they may return in November – we’ll be anxious for that visit.
We had milestones in our family this past month also. Our grandson, Lane had his “White Coat” ceremony at UND which designates the beginning of medical school. His fiancée, Hope received her master’s degree in Social Work and our grand-daughter, Madison began law school at the University of Richmond in Virginia. Whew! Life goes flying by way too fast.
There are changes down at Citizen’s State Bank. It started with a cake for Katie Bjorneby. Katie is taking a sabbatical for a while, but will return to the bank at a later date. And, Erma Lone is retiring. These ladies will be missed by all of us who visit the bank on a daily basis. We wish them both well
I think Edinburg must hold the world’s record for the most knee replacements in little towns of under 200 people. The surgeons have been going almost non-stop fixing all of us with decrepit knees. I had one knee replaced in February. Soon after Judy Geir had her knee done, then Lynda Olson, Alida Flom, Mary Langerud and finally Rose Denault. (Rose is special since this was her 2nd knee replacement.) I am confident that belonging to our exclusive little club is a privileged
experience. It is so delightful to sit around comparing how much pain we’re in, how dreadful the therapy is and the amount of movement and range of motion we have. It makes for dynamite conversations! I guess it doesn’t take much to entertain some of us.
Condolences go to Susan Flaten on the death of Paul. Paul and Susan were here from Florida for the burial service of his brother Alfred Flaten. Shortly after returning to their home Paul had a stroke and later passed away. It was so great to see them for the short time they were here.
Also, sympathy goes to Ginny Walker and all the family on the death of Dewey. His funeral was held today at Grace Free Lutheran Church. The huge crowd attests to all the family and friends Dewey had. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Walker family during this sad time.
Our annual turkey supper at Trinity Lutheran is just around the corner. It is scheduled for September 13th. So much work for us as we seem to get older all the time. It is well attended and according to reports I get from various people it really is a crowd pleaser.
